Miami and my high heels
Ana Paula CorderoANNIE VALA’S DIARY.
Ever since I got engaged, I can't stop thinking about how my life is going to change. Or how, perhaps, it's already changing.
And yes, I'm happy. This was one of my dreams, one of those you keep deep inside. But lately, something curious has been happening to me, and I don't know if it's normal — though I suspect it is—: I find myself remembering those days. You know which ones. Those when all you yearn for is to find love. You go out, meet people, and deep down you wish one of them would be the one.
In those days, my most faithful companions were two you already know well: hope and anxiety. They went everywhere with me. And curiously, they were also the names of some of my favorite shoes. As if my feet had always known how to name what I felt.
And speaking of memories, I have to take you to Miami...
Miami was my most fun era. I lived there for a while, and I swear there isn't a corner of that city that my shoes and I haven't explored. We danced everywhere. Truly, everywhere. Me and my high heels, in every color, traversing the city as if it belonged to us. There were nights when I'd come home with tired feet and a full heart, and I'd think: this is living.
I even fantasized about opening an Instagram account solely for Miami recommendations. The best places to dance, to dine, to watch the sunrise.
But I'm going to confess something: when you're a CEO, you barely have time for anything. And what they say about being a CEO meaning you own your time… I don't know, I don't think it's entirely true.
When you do something you love, time is enjoyed differently. It doesn't feel heavy.
I'm happy working, as happy as I was dancing in those heels all over Miami. And although my life looks very different today, those shoes and those nights are tattooed on my heart.
Because that's what it's all about, isn't it? Collecting moments. And shoes, my faithful companions, are always front and center in the best ones.
Now it's your turn. I want to know: do you have a place that you and your shoes enjoyed like no one else? A city, a dance floor, a street you knew by heart? What was that night you'd give anything to relive, wearing those exact shoes?
Tell me. Read me and reply, because the most beautiful stories almost always begin with a pair of shoes and a place you never forget.
Love,
Annie Vala.
